Learn How to Deflect the King: Englund Gambit Declined
This puzzle comes from the Englund Gambit Declined and shows a classic advantage-deflection idea in the middlegame. Black’s attack works because White’s king safety is already compromised: the king is exposed, key pawns are loose, and the queen and bishop coordinate on the kingside. The tactical point is to force the king into an awkward square while keeping pressure on the dark squares and the weakened pawn shield. Once the defender is displaced, the attack becomes much stronger.
