Learn How to Deflect: Long Skewer Tactic
This puzzle comes from the English Opening and shows a classic middlegame tactical pattern: a forcing check that drags the king away from key defensive squares, then a long skewer on the back rank and along the first rank. White’s material edge looks comfortable, but the king is still exposed and the pieces are loosely coordinated. In classical chess, that kind of imbalance often allows a tactical shot where activity outweighs static material. The key idea is to use forcing moves to break the defender’s coordination.
