Learn How to Trap a Piece: English Defense Tactic
This puzzle comes from the English Defense and shows a classic trapped piece motif in the middlegame. White has a strong tactical idea because Black’s queen and bishop create pressure, but one active bishop move changes the geometry of the position. The key is that the opponent’s queen becomes overloaded and the trapped piece can no longer escape safely. In practical chess, these positions often reward forcing moves that improve piece activity while exploiting king safety and loose coordination.
