Learn How to Use an Intermezzo: Caro-Kann Tactic
This puzzle is a classic example of an intermezzo, also called a zwischenzug, where the strongest move is not the most obvious capture. In the opening, White spots that Black’s queen has become overextended and that a forcing move can be inserted before recapturing material. The key idea is to use a check or other forcing tempo to improve the position while the opponent’s queen is still vulnerable. This is a common tactical pattern in classical chess and middlegame calculation.
