Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Slav Defense Theory
This Slav Defense puzzle shows a classic opening tactic where king safety matters more than material. White’s queen and knight are coordinated to exploit the vulnerable f7 square, a common target in classical chess and many early middlegame attacks. Even though Black has extra material, the exposed king and loose coordination create a forced finish. These positions reward pattern recognition: when the king is stuck in the center and key defenders are overloaded, a direct mating shot can end the game immediately.
