Learn How to Spot: Smothered Mate
This puzzle shows a classic smothered mate pattern in a middlegame position. The key idea is that the enemy king has very little room, and its own pieces or pawns block the escape squares. In positions like this, a forcing check can end the game immediately if the king cannot capture, block, or flee. These motifs often appear in classical chess and in tactical puzzles where king safety is already compromised.
