Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Sicilian Defense
This middlegame puzzle comes from a sharp Sicilian Defense position where king safety dominates everything else. White’s pieces are aggressively placed, with the queen and knight coordinating around the black king’s shelter. Even though Black has a large material edge, that advantage is irrelevant if the king is already boxed in. In classical chess, these positions reward forcing moves that create immediate threats, especially when the enemy king has few escape squares and the back rank or surrounding pieces are overloaded.
