Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: King Safety
This middlegame puzzle is a pure mating pattern: White’s pieces coordinate around the enemy king, and the final blow comes from a queen move that lands on a protected square near the king. The key idea is king safety, not material count. Even though Black is up material, the exposed king and weakened pawn shield make the position tactically lost. In classical chess, these are the positions where a single forcing move ends the game immediately.
