Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: King Safety
This middlegame puzzle is a classic king-safety finish: White’s pieces are already aimed at the enemy king, and the position contains a direct mating net. Even though material is not in White’s favor, the attack is overwhelming because the black king’s shelter is badly weakened. In classical chess, these positions reward pattern recognition over calculation depth. When the king is exposed and the queen has access to the final rank or a key mating square, a single forcing move can end the game immediately.
