Learn How to Spot a Mate in 1: King Safety
This middlegame puzzle is a pure mating pattern: White’s pieces are already aimed at the enemy king, and the final blow comes from direct pressure on the king’s shelter. In classical chess, these one-move finishes often appear when the defender’s pawn cover is weakened and the attacking queen has access to a critical square near the king. Even when material is down, king safety can outweigh everything else if the mating net is complete.
