Learn How to Spot Epaulette Mate: Mate in 2
This puzzle shows a classic middlegame mating pattern from the Scandinavian Defense: an exposed king, limited flight squares, and a forcing check that drives the king into a boxed-in position. The key idea is not material, but coordination. When the defending king is surrounded by its own pieces and the attacking queen and bishop can control the escape squares, a seemingly ordinary check can become a decisive mating net. This is a strong example of epaulette mate in classical chess.
