Learn How to Spot: Mate in 2
This puzzle is a classic middlegame mating attack: White’s queen and rook coordinate to exploit the exposed king and the pinned defender around the back rank. The position is tactical rather than positional, and the key is to notice that the king has very limited flight squares. In classical chess, these short forcing sequences often begin with a check that drags the defending piece onto a square where it can no longer protect the king.
