Learn How to Balestra Mate: Bishop Checkmate
This puzzle comes from the Queen's Gambit Declined Exchange Variation and shows a classic middlegame mating pattern. White’s queen and bishop coordinate to exploit the exposed king and the loosened dark squares around it. Even when material is down, a direct attack can outweigh everything if the enemy king has no safe flight squares and key defenders are overloaded or pinned. In classical chess, these short tactical finishes often appear after development and king safety become the deciding factors.
