Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Mating Net
This middlegame puzzle is a pure mating pattern: Black has a direct checkmate available because the White king is boxed in by its own pieces and weakened king safety. In classical chess, these one-move finishes often appear when the opponent’s back rank, dark squares, or escape squares are overworked. Even with material advantages on the board, a single tactical shot can end the game immediately if the king has no safe flight squares and the checking piece is protected.
