Learn How to Mate in 1: Petrov's Defense
This classical chess puzzle comes from the Petrov's Defense and shows how quickly king safety can outweigh material. White’s pieces are aggressively placed, with the queen and knight coordinating around the enemy king’s shelter. Even though Black has extra material, the position is tactically lost because the king’s escape squares are severely restricted. In the middlegame, these mating nets often appear when development is lagging and key defenders are overloaded.
