Learn How to Deflect the Defender: Mate in 2
This chess endgame puzzle is a classic example of deflection: one forcing move drags a key defender away from its duty, opening a mating net. Even though White is materially ahead, the position is decided by king safety and piece coordination, not by counting pawns. The black rook and bishop work together to restrict the king, while White’s heavy pieces are vulnerable to a sudden tactical finish. In classical chess, these patterns often appear when one piece is overloaded.
