Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Scotch Game Tactics
This puzzle comes from the Scotch Game and shows how quickly a lead in development can turn into a direct attack on the king. Even in the opening, king safety can outweigh material if the opponent’s pieces are awkwardly placed and key squares around the king are weakened. The position is a classic example of a forcing tactical finish: when the enemy king is exposed and your queen has access to a decisive entry square, the game can end immediately.
