Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Petrov's Defense
This puzzle comes from the Petrov's Defense and shows how quickly a quiet-looking opening can turn into a forced mating net. Even when one side is materially ahead, king safety can override everything else. The key idea is to notice when the enemy king has no safe squares, no useful interpositions, and no way to capture the attacking piece. In classical chess, these one-move finishes often appear after a trigger move that exposes the king and creates a direct line to mate.
