Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Kingside Attack
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of a kingside attack turning into immediate mate. White’s pieces are already aimed at the enemy king, and the key idea is that the opponent’s last move has created a fatal weakness on the dark squares around the king. When the king’s shelter is loose and the queen has access to the final attacking square, the position can end instantly. In classical chess, these one-move finishes often come from recognizing a mating net before calculating anything else.
