Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Back Rank Mate
This chess puzzle is a classic mate in 1 pattern where the king’s escape squares are stripped away and a rook delivers the final blow on the back rank. Even though the position comes from a middlegame, the finish has a very clean classical chess feel: one forcing move ends the game immediately. The key idea is that the defending pieces and pawns have already created a mating net, so the last move simply exploits the exposed king and the overloaded defense.
