Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Grunfeld Defense
This puzzle comes from the Grunfeld Defense Exchange Variation and shows how a seemingly material-heavy middlegame can hide a direct mating net. When the enemy king is boxed in and key escape squares are covered, a single forcing move can end the game immediately. Even if one side is down material, active pieces and coordination around the king can outweigh everything else. In classical chess, these tactical shots often appear after a trigger move that loosens the back rank or overloads a defender.
