Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: King’s Gambit Tactics
This puzzle comes from the King’s Gambit Accepted and shows how quickly a middlegame can collapse when the king’s shelter is weakened. Black’s queen is ideally placed to exploit the exposed white king and the loose coordination of White’s pieces. In classical chess, these positions reward direct calculation over slow improvement: when the enemy king has no safe squares and key defenders are overloaded, a single forcing move can end the game immediately.
