Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Back Rank Mate
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of a back rank mating pattern. The key idea is that the enemy king has very little breathing room, while its own pieces and pawns restrict escape squares. When a rook can invade the first rank, the position can collapse immediately if the king is boxed in and no interposition or capture is possible. In classical chess, these motifs often appear after active piece placement and loose king safety.
