Learn How to Back Rank Mate: King Safety
This puzzle is a classic example of a back rank mate pattern built around king safety and forcing moves. White’s heavy pieces coordinate to keep the black king boxed in while a sacrifice removes the last defender. Even though Black is materially ahead, the exposed king and cramped back rank make the position tactically lost. In classical chess, these motifs often appear when rooks and queen can work together on open files and the opponent’s pieces are overloaded.
