Learn How to Attack the King: Mate in 1
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of a kingside attack turning into immediate mate. White’s pieces are already aimed at the enemy king, and the key idea is that the king’s shelter has been weakened enough for a forcing finish. In classical chess, these positions often reward active piece placement over material count: a direct threat can outweigh being down a pawn. The board also shows how a pinned defender and overloaded pieces can create a sudden tactical collapse.
