Learn How to Deflect the Defense: Deflection
This middlegame puzzle is a classic example of deflection: you lure the enemy king or a key defender onto a square where it can no longer protect the real target. The position looks tactical because Black’s pieces are coordinated around White’s king, while White’s back rank and piece placement leave hidden weaknesses. In classical chess, these patterns often decide the game immediately when the king is overworked and the queen can exploit the opened line.
