Learn How to Spot a Mate in 2: Back Rank Mate
This puzzle is a classic mating net built around king safety and a forcing queen sacrifice. White’s attack works because the enemy king is boxed in by its own pieces and has very limited escape squares. In positions like this, the strongest tactical idea is often to remove the defender or force the king onto a vulnerable square, then finish with a rook or queen on the back rank. These motifs appear often in classical chess and middlegame tactics.
