Learn How to Win with an Intermezzo: Hanging Piece
This puzzle is a classic example of a tactical intermezzo in a winning material position. Instead of recapturing immediately, the stronger side uses a forcing check to create a bigger threat first. That extra tempo changes everything: the opponent’s king is dragged into a worse square, a key defender becomes overloaded, and a hanging piece can be won cleanly. In practical classical chess, these short forcing sequences often decide the game before any endgame technique is needed.
