Learn How to Win with a Fork: Defensive Move
This puzzle is a classic chess endgame-style tactical shot hidden in a middlegame shell: the side to move uses a forcing check to create a defensive move that also wins material. The key idea is that checks can be more than attacks on the king—they can also drag the enemy king into a worse square, expose loose pieces, and set up a fork or skewer on the next move. When the position is already tactically loaded, the best move often starts a long forcing sequence rather than grabbing material immediately.
