Learn How to Spot Mate in 1: Trompowsky Attack
This puzzle comes from the Trompowsky Attack and shows how a seemingly ordinary opening position can hide a direct mating shot. In classical chess, development and king safety often matter more than material, especially when one king is stuck in the center and the opponent’s pieces are awkwardly placed. Here, the key idea is to notice the vulnerable dark squares around the king and the limited defensive resources. Even in the opening, a single forcing move can end the game immediately.
