Learn How to Spot Mate in 2: Back Rank Mate
This puzzle is a classic mating net where the attacking side uses forcing checks to trap the king on the back rank. The key idea is that the defender’s king has very limited escape squares because its own pieces and pawns block the flight squares. In positions like this, material count matters less than king safety and piece coordination. Once the first forcing move lands, the follow-up becomes unavoidable because the king cannot step out of the net.
