Learn How to Mate in 2: Owen Defense Tactic
This puzzle comes from the Owen Defense and shows how quickly a middlegame can collapse when the king is left with too few safe squares. White’s attack is built on forcing play: a check that drags the king into a worse position, followed by a finishing blow that exploits the exposed king and loose defenders. The key idea is not material, but coordination and king safety. In classical chess, these tactical shots often appear when one side’s pieces are active and the opponent’s back rank and dark-square cover are weakened.
