Fortress Puzzle (Rated 1546): Back Rank Mate — Pin Tactics
This puzzle is a classic example of how a pin can set up a back rank mate pattern. White’s active pieces coordinate against Black’s king safety, and the key idea is to force the defender away from its best square. Once the important defensive piece is displaced, the position becomes vulnerable to a direct tactical sequence. The combination also shows deflection: a piece is lured into a passive role so the remaining defenders can no longer cover the critical squares.
