Endgame Puzzle (Rated 1561): Win — Rook Tactics
This chess endgame is decided by recognizing a clearance tactic inside a dangerous pawn promotion race. Material count alone is misleading: both sides have advanced passed pawns, but Black’s rook and queen coordinate against the exposed white king. The critical idea is to remove a blocking defender while opening a line for the queen. Once the defensive rook is displaced, checks become powerful and the opponent’s promotion threat loses importance. Active piece coordination can therefore outweigh an apparent material deficit.
